Mild cleansers like Cetaphil, Dove soap, or a basic glycerine soap work best. Avoid exfoliants, scrubs, or products with salicylic acid, which can cause irritation and scabbing.
Apply a light coat of Neosporin or bacitracin 3x day for 2 days after treatment. This will keep the skin from becoming dry and irritated, and prevent pimples by keeping bacteria out of the open follicles.
Unprotected sun exposure will cause your skin to become red and scab. Use a Zinc Oxide based sunscreen, since many other formulas contain ingredients that can irritate the open follicles.
Liquid and cream foundation will cause redness, irritation, scabs and sometimes welts. Powder can be applied, over a light coat of first aid ointment, to prevent it from getting into the open follicles.
If you have pimples on some of the follicles treated, do not apply any acne products. Mix 1 tablespoon of plain epsom salt into a coffee mug of warm water. Dip a cloth into the solution and apply to the area as a warm compress.
Do not use retinol products for at least 1 week before, and 1 week after an electrolysis treatment.
Do not have a chemical peel for at least 2 weeks before , and 2 weeks after an electrolysis treatment.
